Le Bouchon

Located in the heart of Balnarring village, Le Bouchon is a sophisticated bistro combining old-world charm with classic French cuisine. Helmed by Stephane Saleres (ex-France-Soir), the restaurant delivers on all the usual favourites – soupe a l’oignon, escargot, steak tartare, crepes and crème brûlée. With Parisian interiors and a well-stocked bar, it’s the perfect spot to visit for a special anniversary dinner or a Euro-inspired long lunch.

Ouest France

Located up the top end of Main Street Mornington, Ouest France offers a gourmet, sit-down experience inspired by chef and owner Cesar’s hometown in Brittany, France. The 32-seater features rustic French decor and serves simple, delicious fare. Dishes are thoughtfully prepared and plated in the traditional French style – think eye fillet with pepper sauce, duck à l’Orange, and of course, crème brûlée. Here, the wine list is equally important, with a diverse range of organic wines from boutique French makers.

Bistro Elba

A relaxed European bistro from the team behind Donna Maria and Bau Bau, Bistro Elba serves a seafood-focused menu inspired by Southern French cuisine. A 90-minute seating might start with freshly shucked oysters and twice-baked cheese soufflé, before moving onto wild barramundi or a rustic chicken and tarragon pie. For dessert, try the pear tarte tatin, the tarte au chocolate, or the classic vanilla crème brûlée. The light and breezy dining room makes it perfect for long lunches and romantic dinners, with half-price oysters from 5pm and 6pm.

For breakfast, try the egg and bacon brioche bun or smoked salmon omelette with fried capers. For lunch, perhaps a croque monsieur with a serving of frites and a sea view. For those on the run, you’ll find a display cabinet brimming with fresh baguettes and viennoiserie, and a pie warmer stocked with house-made beef bourguignon pies to grab and go.
