Launching into the wellness scene in 2020, Seek Solitude are taking a design-led approach to wellbeing, curating self-care products and functional homewares imbued with intention. With an online offering of carefully selected (and impeccably designed) yoga mats, props, bolsters, and lifestyle products, the brand offer stylish and sustainable solutions for sacred rituals.
The sleek and contemporary designs should come as no surprise, considering their origins. Owners Sophie and Ben had spent years working in creative industries, with Sophie specialising in graphic design and e-commerce and Ben working extensively across industrial design, fine arts and event installations.
The couple share a balanced and sustainable approach to wellbeing, and were looked for a niche that would combine their interests with their unique skillsets. In 2020, they moved to the Peninsula with their puppy Lazlo to hone their creative offering. It was a lifestyle change that allowed them to align their work with their values, honouring the slow rhythms of nature and creating space for meaningful innovation.
Now working from their spacious studio in Rosebud's Industrial Estate, it seems the pair have well and truly found their flow. Having built their own photography cyclorama and workshop on site (complete with an impressive 3D printer), they've created their dream space to bring their thoughtful designs into being.
"Our goal for Seek Solitude is to blend design and functionality. They're yoga and lifestyle products that meet interior design, so they needn't be packed away at the end of your practice", they explain. "It's not about being superficial; we all know that yoga isn't about aesthetics. We wanted to produce something that was multi-purpose and would fit into our home and lifestyle to encourage a more regular practice".
They designed their range with sustainability and performance in mind, starting with the chic and eco-friendly yoga mats that line their factory walls. "Our goal was to create a mat that was durable, practical and beautiful", says Sophie.
The printed mats are made from biodegradable natural rubber, buttery-soft microsuede and water-based inks. Though they're smooth to touch, the level of grip increases with moisture, making them perfect for all kinds of yoga asana, including rigorous and heated flows.
To supplement your seated practice, they've also produced a range of bolsters and meditation cushions, available in natural colours and pastel hues. Made from 100% pure cotton and filled with eco-friendly buckwheat, they offer subtle support during restorative postures and relaxation.
While their products are designed for longevity and daily use, Seek Solitude also offers a recycling program for when they reach their natural lifespan. Sophie and Ben hope to encourage conscious consumption by producing quality products, enabling responsible disposal and supporting a circular economy.
Sophie and Ben have also formulated a subtle aromatherapy range to complement the offering, including hand-blended room sprays and dreamy candles. Ben carefully handcrafts the Moon Dust Candles in small batches using a cement and sand aggregate, which he pours, shapes and smooths to perfection. Each vessel is then filled with natural soy wax, blended with the subtle and grounding notes of cedarwood, lavender, lemon, rosemary and frankincense. They're perfect for gifting and for cultivating a sense of calm in any room.
