Set behind an industrial frontage of timber and steel, The Nook is a contemporary event space and co-working studio for local artists and digital creatives.

Located on Progress Street in Mornington’s Industrial Estate, the factory was once an old welding workshop built and owned by a local metalworker. When he decided to hang up his boots after 30 years on the tools, his three children, Josh, Kristy and Joel joined forces to take over. With shared backgrounds in graphic design, interior design and carpentry, it made sense to combine their skills and build a communal space to cater for their creative pursuits.

In homage to their dad, they kept parts of the original build including the steel doors and windows that frame the factory and give it a high-end, architectural feel. Inside, the space underwent a full renovation and was transformed from a dirty old workshop into a polished multi-purpose hub.

Step past the matte-black exterior, and you’ll find a light, bright event space with crisp white walls, polished concrete floors and hanging greenery. It’s a blank canvas that lends itself to workshops, functions, exhibitions, retail pop-ups and photo shoots. The gallery can accommodate 100 people standing for cocktail events, with ample room for food truck parking out front. Come night time, the private alleyway is lit by festoon lighting, making it ideal for indoor-outdoor celebrations such as weddings and engagement parties.

The space also boasts a communal kitchen, a 10-person meeting room, and 12 unique creative studios crafted from natural plywood. The office fridge is filled with local beers, and the sunny courtyard is a popular spot for a shared lunch.

A diverse group of local creatives call the studio home, from illustrators and jewellery designers to architects, marketing agencies, filmmakers and accountants. The fit out is designed to facilitate connection and collaboration, with tenants able to walk down the hall and tap into the collective brain trust.

“We have a lot of talented people inside these walls,” says Josh. “It’s great to be surrounded by people in different creative industries that you can bounce ideas off. There's a real community vibe".

A regular rotation of events fills the monthly calendar, from paint and sip workshops to night markets and weekend warehouse sales. Those interested in hosting an event, hiring a space or leasing a studio can get in touch via email or reach out via The Nook’s website to arrange a tour.
