From world-class day spas to award-winning natural hot springs, the Mornington Peninsula is a bonafide wellness destination brimming with bathing opportunities. Whether you’re looking to unwind after a weekend of winery touring or relax midweek with an early morning soak or moonlit bathing session, these bathhouses are open daily and all but a 90-minute drive from Melbourne.

Peninsula Hot Springs

Nestled amongst the coastal landscape of Fingal, Peninsula Hot Springs is the Mornington Peninsula’s original bathing destination. The expansive site features over 70 globally inspired bathing and wellness experiences for you to explore, with natural geothermal mineral waters flowing from 637 metres below ground.

Set across 42 acres of rolling hills, farmland and coastal bush, you can wander the sandy paths between the landscaped amphitheatre, lakeside and gully pools, ice cave, saunas, steam baths, cave pools, reflexology walk and iconic hilltop pool.

Those looking to relax and reconnect with friends and family can do so in the communal warmth of the bathhouse, or retreat to the adults only Spa Dreaming Centre for private bathing and spa treatments. Either way, bookings are strongly encouraged.

Boasting its own onsite cafe, food bowl, slow-dining restaurant, wellness centre and luxurious glamping accommodation, you can stay all day – and all night, too.

Alba Thermal Springs

Also located in Fingal, Alba Thermal Springs is an architectural masterpiece hidden amongst the dunes. Explore 31 geothermal pools and wellness experiences spread across the 15-hectare site, including herbal-infused botanical pools, rain pools and refreshing cold-plunge pools, as well as saunas, steam rooms and relaxing chill-out zones.

There are also private terrace pools and a rooftop salt pool, which allows you to float weightlessly for 45 minutes of pure bliss. The onsite restaurant, Thyme, is headed by celebrity chef and restaurateur, Karen Martini, and offers a seasonal menu featuring locally-sourced Mornington Peninsula produce. Geared more towards adults than families, Alba is a luxe experience for those who take their self-care seriously.

Aurora Spa and Bathhouse

Tucked behind the iconic Intercontinental Hotel, Aurora Spa and Bathhouse is a slice of serenity in the back streets of Sorrento. This luxe day spa boasts eight treatment rooms, an all-weather bathhouse with hydrotherapy mineral pools, magnesium float tanks, a halotherapy chamber, a glacial mist room, an aromatherapy steam room and the largest sauna in the southern hemisphere.

Though the spa spans 1000 square metres, the space is capped at just 60 guests, keeping the vibe intimate and deeply relaxing. For those looking to explore the facilities at their own pace, the ten-step bathhouse ritual is an immersive, self-led bathing experience that begins with a luxurious salt scrub and a soak in the sky-lit Daydream Pool. There are also body treatments, massage, and skin health facials on the menu, with each offering intended to bring the mind and body back to a state of calm.

The dreamy design is by award-winning architecture studio Woods Baggot, who have paid homage to the spa’s coastal home with hand-sculpted copper Centalla adorning the walls. Whilst the exterior is light and breezy Hamptons, the interior is sensual and refined, with natural tones and textures used throughout. Oak panelling and flecked terrazzo tiles are paired with moody brass and monochrome styling, as you float from one tranquil space into the next.
